Topic Description

Not only do employers based in the suburbs face the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years, they also have to compete for talent with Chicago based companies and all the glitz and glamour of working in the city. In our session you will learn about how suburban based employers are creating employer value propositions, strategies to source candidates and tactics to “sell” their open roles. The session will cover relevant demographics and trends for the suburban labor force and discuss how suburban based companies are competing with Chicago based companies for new talent….and winning!

Robyn Barber is Director of Global Talent Acquisition and Employee Engagement at IDEX Corporation, a global industrial manufacturing business serving high growth specialized markets.  She is responsible for all aspects of recruiting and leading the engagement initiative for the company.  Prior to IDEX, Robyn led Talent Acquisition for a variety of life sciences businesses including Medline, Baxter’s Medication Delivery business, and Abbott’s Search Consultant (Sourcing) organization.  Robyn began her recruiting career in Executive Search at Boyden in Chicago.

His leadership skills and passion for relationship-building, along with an operational-based business philosophy, has led GS Floor Designs to be named Home Depot's 2019's Service Provide of the Year, with high (VOC-voice of the customer) ratings.

Penny is the HR VP for Intermatic, a manufacture of energy control products. An Officer of the company, she leads Recruitment, Development & Engagement and Global Total Rewards. Earlier she worked for iconic organizations like Honeywell and Searle/Monsanto/Pfizer.  With a Bachelors and Master’s degree in social work and after failing to change the world early in her career, she made the switch to HR.  Penny, who teaches Jazzercise and ethnic dance, holds an SPHR and Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Bio: Jess’ career began in recruitment and evolved to include OD & Training. Now the Global L & D Manager with Optimas OE, she drives L&D initiatives across a domestic and international workforce with a focus building manufacturing labor forces. With a Master’s in Communication from Purdue and a Bachelor’s in Marketing from the Art Institute – Chicago, Jess is an Executive Board of Director, Education Foundation Director, and Education Committee member with the Technology and Manufacturing Association.

Bio: Melissa is an accomplished Talent Acquisition Leader, having worked for18 years at Takeda Pharmaceuticals (Baxter, Baxalta, Shire and then Takeda) in positions of increased responsibility. She oversaw Divisional recruitment activities for US Operations across the US, hiring 15,000 new employees over a 10 year period. Prior to Takeda, Melissa’s served as a Senior HR Business Partner for 9 years at Baxter and also worked at TD Waterhouse, KPMG and Accenture in various HR roles with a focus on Talent Acquisition.

   

This program is pending approval for 1 credit hour towards PHR/SPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) as well as 1 professional development credit (PDC's) toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification.
