The Keynote speaker will provide an overall approach and framework they use to inspire their employees to achieve extraordinary results. Following the keynote, participants will engage in table topic discussions to solve real problems around engagement and explore solutions around four specific employee engagement challenges. Participants are invited to share with their colleagues in a hands-on problem-solving conversation. 



Ben Black, Director of The Heart Center at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, leading all cardiovascular services.

Ben is a tenured healthcare operations leader, with multi-faceted experience in academic medicine, for-profit health systems and medical group management. His experience includes operations leadership with Tenet Healthcare and serving as the CEO of the largest independent neurosciences medical group in Illinois as well as his current role leading the now #3 US News & World Report ranked Pediatric Heart Center at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Ben’s passion lies in developing leaders and generating a culture of ownership to drive engagement in healthcare organizations. He has both a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Medicine as well as an MBA from Lewis University, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt designation from DePaul University. 



Donna Horowitz, HR executive with experience that spans the spectrum from start-up to Fortune 100 companies; and from public to private including Motorola; Underwriters Laboratories; IBM; Elkay Manufacturing; Leica Microsystems, a subsidiary of Danaher; and Wall Family Enterprise, a privately held group of companies serving the education industry. 


Donna previously co-chaired the HRMAC International Interest Group and served on the HRMAC Summit Planning Committee.  She also co-founded the Human Resource Interest Group of JUF in Chicago. She serves as Leadership & Governance Chair of YJ Global, an organization committed to youth education. Donna earned her Ph.D. and MA degrees from DePaul University in industrial/organizational psychology and her BA at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.


Adam Malaty-Uhr, Founder of Growing at Work Inc, a leader development consultancy in Chicago. The Growing at Work team helps maximize the development of high potentials.

Adam is an experienced operations leader and development practitioner. He is a skilled practitioner of emotional intelligence facilitation, experiential leader development, and online leader development. He grounds his practice in his experiences as a military leader both in the United States and Overseas, along with a decade of practice and research. Adam does the work to build individual and organizational capacity for leader development rather than dependency. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master’s in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, and a Master’s in the Psychology of Leader Development from Harvard University. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star, Ranger Tab, and earned the rank of Major in the Army National Guard.


Ebony D Only, the Principle Consultant for OnlyOne Consulting

Prior to that she served at Andersen Consulting, TransUnion and University Health Systems.  She collaborates with complete transparency to equip organizations to engage leadership, decrease employee turnover and increase customer satisfaction.  She believes that there is no magic pill, so when she and her clients begin this work they know that it will be just that…..WORK!  For Ebony, there is nothing more invigorating to the human spirit than working towards a common goal with like-minded colleagues who are equally passionate.  What matters to Ebony is that she cares enough about people, the work they do, and how their work influences and impacts the lives of the people they encounter.  Ebony earned her Master’s Degree in Leadership from Lee University, a Master’s in Human Resources from Fort Hays State University and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Chicago State University.  She has several certifications and designations:  including Human Capital Strategist, Business Management and Employment Law.


Kim Cyze, Senior Director, Human Resources for Topco Associates LLC. 

Kim’s expertise includes many areas of the employee life cycle including talent acquisition, talent management, employee engagement, and talent development.  Kim is passionate about developing executable human capital strategy that motivates teams to exceed business objectives and results.  As such, Kim is responsible for creating innovative ways to enhance Topco’s Associate Value Proposition to attract, retain and engage all associates.   In her 6 years with Topco, Kim has led significant transformation around talent acquisition, talent development and talent management.  Specifically related to talent acquisition Kim led a more effective and streamlined companywide talent acquisition practice which better utilizes technology.  Further, Kim also led a complete overhaul of Topco’s employee engagement survey approach by building one which focuses on actionable data and manager development.  Prior to Topco, Kim was the HR Leader for a fast growing global digital marketing agency and spent 14 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in various HR roles.   She is a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University.  She is a member of Human Resources Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC), Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), Association of Talent & Development (ATD) and she is certified with the Hogan assessment tool.  Kim enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and listening to music.  Kim also enjoys coaching and mentoring up and coming HR professionals where she shares her knowledge and passion for HR.



Traci Delgado, Kensington International, Vice President Client Relationships

Traci Delgado is Vice President of Client Relationships for Kensington International and in that capacity she builds relationships and consults with clients about Leadership Development and Career Transition opportunities and challenges.   

Traci has over 15 years of expertise as a Talent Development Leader across a wide range of industries, partnering with Human Resources Executives and C-Suite Leaders to build global learning and leadership development strategies and solutions that align to the organization's top talent management initiatives.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Toledo and a Master of Education from Kent State University.

The four table topic are as follows:

1. What leadership/manager behaviors (at various levels) facilitate or hinder the engagement of employees?  How can we develop the behavior? What approaches have we taken that have worked/not worked?

2. How would a manager use job redesign, rotations, job enrichment and other approaches to further the engagement of their employees? What experiences, successes and setbacks have we experienced?

3. How would we translate engagement gap items identified in surveys into effective interventions? What problems/successes have we experienced? What key learnings could we share?

4. How would we make the business case (ROI) of engagement to secure sponsorship and funding? What business metrics would we use? How might we facilitate and promote engagement “on a shoestring”?
