We all bring unconscious biases into the workplace. These deeply subconscious attitudes span race, gender, appearance, age, wealth and much more and can inadvertently affect many of the choices we make. And because they are so reflexively triggered without our knowledge, they are virtually inconceivable.How do we, as talent acquisition professionals, ensure that we make every effort to counteract our natural instinct for bias so as to provide our clients with the highest level of talent regardless of our own unconscious bias.
Brynne Hovde, Co-Founder at Nova Collective
Brynne is the co-founder and operations director of The Nova Collective, a learning and communications firm that focuses on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the workplace. Prior to founding Nova, Brynne oversaw all client services for Second City Works, the B2B arm of the Second City theater. Via a partnership with Social Justice Education, part of Northwestern University's Inclusion & Community team, Brynne has undergone focused study in Deconstructing Whiteness and Social Justice Facilitation programs.
Brynne currently lives in Oak Park, where she is a co-founder of Race Conscious Dialogues - a community program for people who are white to learn about, unpack, and engage in dismantling white supremacy. She also serves on the Oak Park Community Relations Commission, an advisement board to Village government that focuses on fostering diversity & inclusion within the Village of Oak Park.

Tiffany's passion for true equity in the workplace propelled her to leave her upward corporate career, and bring her passion and working life together to challenge the ideas of "Business As Usual". As a Black lesbian, Tiffany has witnessed inequity throughout her journey and has refused to have her identities minimized along the way. She has been, and remains, determined to succeed because of her unique perspective and experiences - not in spite of them. Tiffany was named to Business Equality Magazine's 2018 40 LGBTQ Leaders 40 under 40, and holds a Masters from Illinois State University, with a focus on Management.
